Encourage car sharing experience for seniors with a mobile app

Group 122

Project 1: Drive solidarity, help the elderly !

Context

When? Where? Who? Why?

We realized that the elderly were often isolated. They represent one seventh of the world population, so approximately 900 million people.
In 2018, there were 13.1 million over 65 in France. It is a growing market because of the increase in life expectancy.

Target

For whom?

We decided to focus on seniors who may feel isolated, don't have access to to public transportation for every-day life actions. They may not be healthy enough to drive themselves around, or may be not be financially stable to afford their own car. In any case, those people could benefit form the help of the civil society. Furthermore, more than half of adults over 65 own smartphones (according to Pew Research Center) so it doesn't represent a big issue for our project. In any case, we will design something accessible and intuitive for our target.

Service offered

What? How?

We would like to provide a website or an app where relatives who take care of the old people in their family could offer to take along their way other old people in the neighbourhood that would like to go to the same destination. A schedule will display the planned trips, and if a ride is is scheduled last minute, the people living near by will receive a notification to let them know about it. Then, people can just "join" or not the car.

Identity

Mood board:

Explanation of the moodboard : Our project aims to help seniors by promoting carpooling. Based on solidarity, carpooling will improve the mobility of our seniors and fight their isolation. The car will become a space for exchanges and will allow them to discover a new taste for ordinary activities such as going to the supermarket, visiting their family or going to do any activities.

Project 2: Reinvent carpooling experience for seniors

Context

When? Where? Who? Why?

As the population is aging, and representing an increasing portion of the population, it is important to focus on the problem they may be facing. Mobility is one of them. They may not be physically able to drive, or cannot afford the maintenance of car they only use from times to times. Besides, the services already on the market do not take into account some of the specificities of seniors.

Target

For whom?

As mentionned above, our project is designed for old people, who account for more than a sixth of the French population. On average, after a lifetime of hard work, seniors have more means. They travel more and spend mainly for leisure. They are also the biggest consumers of media. For example, they subscribe to many more subscriptions than the rest of the population. They also buy more cars and spend more on interior design. Nevertheless, some seniors suffer from impoverishment and face isolation or exclusion. They are also victims of the deterioration of their health and it is sometimes difficult for them to move.

Service offered

What? How?

This app would focus on making it very smooth for old people. It will be intiuitive and ergonomic, and written in a bigger font size. It will also make sure the driver picks up the old person instead of having the old person going to a location, because they may not be able to walk long distances. Also, the cars would be more comfortable than usual ones to offer the best ride.

Identity

Mood board:

Explanation of the moodboard : Our project aims to help seniors by promoting a better service. The car will become a confortable space and the driver would help them to go inside the car. The app will also be easier to manipulate.
